If you indulge in cannabis, you have likely tasted the world-famous zestfulness of super lemon haze and are familiar with the distinct attributes that make the plant what it is.
But do you know from where it comes?
To know the history of Super Lemon Haze, we must first delve a little bit into the history of the original Haze.
Since their creation in the 1960s and '1970s, Haze cannabis strains have long been relaxing and uplifting for smokers. Some of the most popular cannabis strains in the world can trace their linage to Haze genetics, but there are few as famous as the 'world's most famous plant' Super Lemon Haze.
What we know: Original and Contemporary Haze.
There is a lot of uncertainty about the origins of these cannabis strains, mainly because more than one breeder claims their creation. We know that the original haze cannabis strain was bred by the Haze Brothers of Santa Cruz in the '60s and '70s by cultivating and crossing many diverse Sativa landraces, eventually leading to the original Haze. But if the brothers from Santa Cruz are responsible for the original Haze, what about contemporary versions of Haze?
Two Cannabis Icons, one cannabis strain.
Cannabis icons Sam the Skunk Man and Neville Schoemaker, famous for Skunk 1 and Nevilles Haze, respectively, both lay a claim to the modern-day version of Haze. Both men were players on the 1980's Amsterdam cannabis scene, and both men had what they claimed to be original Haze genetics. Without one of them, if not both, who knows if we would have ever tasted the earthy sweetness of Super Lemon.

Super Lemon Haze
The history of the Haze strain itself might be unclear, but the history of one of its most famous descendants, Super Lemon Haze, is not. The Lemon Skunk x Super Silver Haze strain can trace its linage back to Skunk *1, Haze, and Northern Lights. It was bred in the late '90s by the legendary Franco Loja of Greenhouse Seeds Co and has won multiple awards, including two High Times Cups and 1st place at the Seattle Medical Cup.
The Worlds Most Famous Plant
In 2011, Greenhouse Founder Arjan Roskam claimed that Super Lemon Haze was the 'world's most famous plant' and the 'best plant for the next ten years and few other strains have had the same impact on the cannabis community as Super Lemon Haze did.
Culturally, it is as iconic as any strain you can name. Recreational growers noted the unique citrus flavour, the aroma of freshly peeled lemon, which is abundant because of the plants' rich terpene profile. Moreover, medicinal growers have used it to treat the symptoms of conditions such as pain, depression, and ADHD.
Not to mention cannabis breeders who have bred and bred until life gave them some sweet, earthy and distinctly lemony. Super Lemon Haze is recognised as one of the best hybrid Sativa lines ever produced. It has and continues to be an inspiration to breeders, who have created some exquisite strains directly from its line.
TOP 5
We put together a Top 5 Lemon strains list and all entries have SLH in their linage. If that causes you to be outraged, or we haven't included your favourite Lemmon Cannabis strain. Then take to the comment section and be outraged.
Super Lemon Haze
This lemony wonder of the world was crafted with the passion and skill of a champion breeder. And if you watch footage of Franco working with and teaching about his fabulous creation. You can see that passion and excitement for this strain seeping out of him like juice from a squeezed lemon. And it is easy to see why he was so passionate. Super Lemon Haze is the ultimate Lemon cannabis strain. It provides a fast working but long-lasting energetic high. The taste of citrus is abundant, with plenty of earthy/musky tones present due to its unique terpene profile. Note that this strain is terpinolene dominant which is rare in cannabis strains. Although the compound is often present in cannabis plants, it is rarely the dominant terpene.
Even the appearance of SLH is unique, with buds growing in all shapes and sizes. However, some consistency remains. The flowers of SLH grow light and crystal-coated, and the branches grow loose and wide. It will be ready to harvest in approximately 10-12 weeks indoors but will thrive outdoors in the right conditions.
Lemon Bubble
Lemon Bubble is a direct descendent of SLH. It was crafted by taking a selected Super Lemon pheno from GreenHouse Seeds Co and crossing it with Phenofinders own Silver Bubble. The result is a plant with good resin production and citrus tasting buds with silver undertones. Flowering in 8 - 9 weeks.
Franco's Lemon Cheese
Following the tragic and untimely passing of the Father of SLH Franco Loja, GreenHouse Seeds paid tribute to the legendary breeder with a new strain. The proceeds of which are donated to a foundation to provide for Franco's children's education.
Lemon Sherbert
Phenofinders are evidently fans of the SLH line. This time they took their Lemon Bubble rich in SLH linage and crossed it with a reversed Sunset Sherbet. Flowering in 9-10 weeks, Lemon Sherbet will produce citrus smelling flowers with a purple hue, and it will share many other characters with its lemony ancestors.
Lemon Tart
Cali Connection recognised that there are few, if any, Sativa Hybrids that were better than SLH. Lemon Tart is the offspring of a male Wedding Cake and reversed female SLH. The result is a plant with an intense terpene content that has elevated potential for extract, which can thank SLH for its sweet and lemony flavour. Expect Lemon Tart to flower in 9 - 10 weeks.
